About-PT-World-IPTN-Signet The Playback Theatre idea has inspired many people. Playback companies now exist on seven continents. The International Playback Theatre Network was founded in 1990 to support Playback activity throughout the world and connect this community.

International Playback conferences have taken place in Sydney, Australia (1992), in a village north of Helsinki, Finland (1993), in Seattle (1994) and Olympia (1995), both USA, in Perth, Australia, (1997), in York, England (1999) and Shizuoka, Japan (2003), in São Paulo, Brazil (2007), and in Frankfurt, Germany (2011). In 2015 it is being held in Montreal, Canada.

The International Playback Theatre Network (IPTN) connects playackers world-wide. Members receive a newsletter, INTERPLAY, they are listed in a membership directory, and stay connected through conferences. Members enjoy the right to use the trademarked Playback Theatre name and logo and have their name listed on the IPTN website.

There are four categories of membership: Group member (for Playback companies), Practitioner member (for Playback teachers and other professionals), Regular member (for individuals interested in supporting Playback), and School member (group member for Playback Theatre schools).
