Leadership in Playback Theatre 2017 Brazil
June 26 – July 14, 2017
Location: Recanto Marista Champagnat, a retreat centre located above the city of Florianópolis, beach city in the south of Brazil.
This course offers students a chance for an extended training with Jonathan Fox, playback theatre’s co-founder.
It will emphasize building PT skills, especially in conducting. It will teach how to balance spontaneity, story, atmosphere, and guidance to achieve effective playback theatre workshops and performances. It will also confront the issues that face playback leaders, including company life, performance standards, and community relations. We will share the joys of our playback journey so far. Drawing on specific moments from our playback experience, we will also study what happens when playback goes wrong. The curriculum will include ethics as well as practical examples of PT at work. This three-week intensive, offered in English with Portuguese translation, will provide a chance for participants from different regions to share their playback theatre experience in an atmosphere of collegiality and commitment. Students will receive a diploma at the end of the course.
Students are expected to have completed Playback Theatre Practice or Playback Theatre Advanced Skills, as well as at least 5 year’s active experience. Playback practitioners with at least 10 years’ active experience plus the recommendations of two accredited trainers (if possible) will also be considered. The depth of the Leadership experience also depends on having a diverse and balanced group. Thus admission includes considerations of demographics and diversity and is at the discretion of the staff.
To be eligible for the diploma, students must also complete a series of independent study projects. These include: Essay, Practicum Project, and Creative Project as well as some additional work on social awareness & psychological awareness. [Information on Independent Study Projects]
